In August 2025, Zimbabwean sculpture Thomas guided participants to make their own piece of art in an introduction to stone sculpting workshop.

Thomas Ndhlebe is a Stoke-on-Trent based sculptor from the Gokwe district in Zimbabwe. He learnt stone sculpture from his grandfather when he was seven years old, using soapstone.

He has led workshops in other countries such as Holland, France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Zambia and America. He has sold sculptures around the world and was commissioned by the United Nations (UNICEF) to create work for them.

He exhibited at the National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe where he received a merit. At the six-month African Art Conference in Zambia, he was awarded a Certificate of Excellence by the Minister of Culture. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands attended one of his workshops as a student.

In September 2025, assemblagist, painter and graphic designer Edward Mackenzie guided participants to make their own piece of art with identical components.

Edward Mackenzie was born in California, took a Fulbright Scholarship to the UK, began making his art in New York, honed his skills in New Zealand and Maine and finally settled in Stoke-on-Trent. Quite a journey.

Edward is a modern day ‘upcycler’. His response to a wonderful internationally sourced collection of everyday objects is to recreate them into three-dimensional assemblage art - and thus the components become the art. Alchemy! Accomplished, collectable, witty and thoughtful – a man for all seasons.
