Tapestry: North Staffs Pakistani Women’s Association

Back Reads:

Parenthood brings many joys but alongside it

Many reasons to be anxious and concern.

As Pakistani women who have adopted

England as our home, we feel that these

Concerns are even greater for us and the

Future prospects of our children.

Many of us who were brought up here

Experienced racism at some point in our

Lives. These experiences have played a great

Role in shaping of our prospective of the future.

Whilst, our first generation of Pakitanis

Settled here, passively accepted racism/discrimination

As inevitable, we the second the third generations

Have attempted to challenge it. The notion of equality

Has a real meaning.

I feel that I speak for the majority of

Pakistani, particularly the 2nd/ 3rd generations that

We have been successful in our attempts to adopt

Well into the host community, whilst at the same

Time retaining our religious and cultural heritage.

Obviously and very naturally we have concerns

About our children’s future. We have aspirations

For them.

The vision that in 25 yrs time the present

Multi-cultural society would have advanced

Considerably. We hope that our children

Would play their role in creating a

Truly harmonious communities.

That, the climate of the society will be

More tolerant and greater aware of

Richness of different cultures.

Finally, we hope that our children

Continue to maintain close links with

Their motherland and retain the cultural

Practises in a new modified form and

Continue to use Islam in every day

Life.
